Magic History Contest June-Follow Up
We have a winner for the June Magic History Contest. The question was:
"What magician had a nickname on the West Coast and a nickname on the East Coast which were spelled the same but pronounced differently?"
And the answer was Dai Vernon, some pronounced it 'Day', others pronounced it "Die". The winner has been notified and once I get his address, I'll be dropping his magic history prize in the mail!
The Magic History Contest will be taking a couple months off, however it will resume again in September 2018. Thank you to everyone who has participated!
Next up is a new Houdini article. For me it's one that I wrote months ago, but forgot to post, lol. I'll get it posted this weekend.

Magic History Contest for April
UPDATE: So I've already got a winner, and there are scores of other entries that are correct. But as you can see below, I said, "I will randomly choose a second person to win a prize as well". The contest remains open for another week, so ENTER! You've got nothing to loose, you might just be the second prize winner. Also, in case you're wondering, there will be a May contest too.
Last October, during Houdini Month, I had several contests with some pretty cool prizes (if I do say so myself). I once had a contest back in 2012, that was so hard, no one got all the questions right. I was just looking over the list of questions, and even I couldn't get them all today, lol.
But I love this idea of a Contest, so this month, I'm doing an April Magic History Contest. One question. The winner gets an actual piece of magic history. It's a brochure used by a famous magician, but I won't say who, quite yet. Here is the question:
Many magicians have used devils or demons on their advertising. Which Houdini poster featured devils?
Contest Rules:
- Only 1 entry per person
- To enter: Send me an email, with the subject heading 'April Magic History Contest' to info@carnegiemagic.com
- Please include your full name in the email.
- You must live in the continental United States
- The 1st email I receive that has the correct answer is the winner! If I get a bunch of emails with correct answers, I will randomly choose a second person to win a prize as well.
- No purchase necessary.
- Contest Ends April 30th, 2018
The winner was William V from Havertown PA. He's already received his prize.
SECOND PRIZE: A smaller Virgil & Julie Brochure (not pictured)
The winner was drawn from the remaining entries and the prize goes to Kevin A. of Indio California.
Congrats to both winners. And thanks everyone for playing. Next month, ANOTHER Magic History Contest.

Houdini Contest #3
It's time for the third Houdini Month Contest. This time, it's a little different. You have to answer a question correctly, and then your name goes into a drawing for the prize. So you'll need your Houdini knowledge on this one. And it's not easily looked up. Please do not post the answers on this page.
CONTEST STARTS OCT 24th (NOW)
Only 1 entry per personTo enter: Send me an email, with the subject heading 'Houdini Contest 3' to info@carnegiemagic.comPlease include your full name in the email.Remember to include your answer to the question below...On Saturday Oct 28, 2017, I will draw a name from all of those who answered correctly.
QUESTION: In the book, Houdini The Untold Story, there are illustrations of various handcuffs at the end of each chapter. What is the source of those illustrations? In other words, where did they first appear?
Sadly, it appears that I've made this contest question too hard, or no one is interested in this coffee mug, lol! I say that because I've not received many responses and not one correct one. I will keep it up till Saturday and then offer a new contest next week.
UPDATE: Looks Like I've got to cancel this contest. Lack of response makes me think the question was too hard. That's too bad, I thought it was a really clever question, maybe too clever. Oh well. Monday, I'll have a new contest, the last one for Houdini Month!

Houdini Bobblehead CONTEST
There is a good chance all my fellow Houdini fans will already have one of these. But then again, one of the purposes of a blog like this is to bring in NEW fans. So I'm having a very simple contest to win a Houdini Bobblehead, unopened in the original container. These retail for about $20 and most places are sold out. Here are the rules:
CONTEST IS NOW OVER!!!
Only 1 entry per personTo enter: Send me an email, with the subject heading 'Houdini Contest' to info@carnegiemagic.comPlease include your full name in the email. You must live in the continental United StatesThe 25th email I receive is the winner!
I will contact the winner via email to get your mailing address so I can send it to you. It costs nothing to enter, and I will even pay the shipping. The contest ends when I get to the 25th person, that simple. So it might take an hour. It might take a day, who knows. Usually the blog articles get a couple hundred views, so if just a portion of the readers participate, then it should go pretty quickly.
UPDATE: We have a WINNER, Jack T. of NY, was the winner of the contest. Almost 200 people viewed, but not a lot of folks entered the contest. I may have another contest before the month is up, so keep watching! And thanks to everyone who participated!!!

Contest ANSWERS Special
The First Magic Detective Contest is now officially over. Thanks to everyone who sent in answers. Seems that I may have made the contest a bit on the difficult side, lol (sorry about that). Maybe next time I'll keep it to 10 questions or less and maybe not so hard. As it was there was no one who answered all the questions correctly. The person who came the closest however was awarded the First Prize, which was the Kellar book by Gail Jarrow. Technically I didn't have to give out a second prize, but I did anyway. I took all the remaining submissions and put them in a box and drew out one and that person got the second prize.
For those of you wondering what the answers to the contest questions were, I decided to put together a special edition of The Magic Detective Show with ALL the answers included. It's a longer video than all the other episodes, it's almost 10 minutes. And it will not be available on the Magic Detective Show YouTube Channel as you need a special link to see it. The only place where you can see the video is by watching it below.
Once again, thank you to everyone who tried and thanks for continually watching my show and reading this blog!

More Magic Detective News
Tomorrow, Friday Oct 12 my second episode of The Magic Detective Show will be up on Youtube. This next episode I'll be showing three different graves of magicians. For regular followers of my blog, you will have seen the graves, HOWEVER, there is something there that I teased about in one of my columns that you haven't seen. So tomorrow, go check it out.
Because my format is only 5 minutes long, I am not able to get in depth into things like I want. I do plan eventually to do longer episodes but right now I need to build the audience and get the interest going and frankly, 5 minutes seems to be about the standard for popular shows on Youtube. But I have added one feature. After the episodes, I'm adding a blog article with more in-depth information. Hopefully this will work to bring more people to the blog and also bring my blog readers to the show.
Finally, The Magic Detective Show & Blog now has an Official Facebook Fan Page. So if you are so inclined, please go over and 'Like' my page!
Don't forget to enter the Magic Detective History Contest going on this month! The contest ends on Oct 30th, 2012, and the answers will be revealed on The Magic Detective Show!
