Heller's exact date...What a splendid account! Heller's exact date of birth was 10 August 1829, and at the Royal Academy of Music in London he trained under leading musicians of the day (names can be supplied). His father was organist at the Faversham Parish Church of St Mary of Charity - quite a good instrument, with pipework then mainly of 18th century date. I post on behalf of the Faversham Society, a voluntary charity, which has an interest in all locally-born and bred people of fame, and would be very interested to hear more from Vince and Allister of Robert's descendants. In case they don't read this, possibly Dean, you could pass their email addresses to me at ticfaversham (at)btinternet.com You can check the Society out at www.faversham.org/society, and we can supply photographs of the Parish Church if you would like one.
Arthur PercivalArthurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04574780123482344557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7476836446638612873.post-31095045391636285952011-04-23T23:49:06.891-05:002011-04-23T23:49:06.891-05:00His brother settled in AUstralia, becoming a solic...His brother settled in AUstralia, becoming a solicitor and left several children.Duffy the Wonderdoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06744092469930979488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7476836446638612873.post-17666150462478916502011-04-18T14:36:25.770-05:002011-04-18T14:36:25.770-05:00Hey Vince, if you email me, I'll send you the ...Hey Vince, if you email me, I'll send you the newspaper article where I found the info on the $350,000.00 I've also got a photo of Heller's daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter, and it sounds like you are related to all of them!Carnegiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10142955905272650610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7476836446638612873.post-63083580811812089532011-04-17T19:07:09.091-05:002011-04-17T19:07:09.091-05:00Robert Heller is my great-great-grandfather (my mo...Robert Heller is my great-great-grandfather (my mother's mother's mother's father). This is an interesting and well-researched article. The only "surprise" here was that Heller left his family a fortune of $350,000. We had understood that he left them pretty much destitute.Vincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07111523565977747389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7476836446638612873.post-82706815695045139312011-02-11T14:23:17.704-06:002011-02-11T14:23:17.704-06:00A couple minor changes were made to this blog toda...A couple minor changes were made to this blog today. They only go back to 1913, but they estimate that $1,000 in 1913 was equivalent to about $25,000 today.

I also found that Members of the United States Congress began receiving an annual salary of $3,000 per year in 1855.

Another fact I found was that professors at the University of North Carolina were making a salary of about $1,500 in 1858.Joseph P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10696554392547354373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7476836446638612873.post-77290727590695184112011-01-18T03:03:39.832-06:002011-01-18T03:03:39.832-06:00Fascinating stuff ...
